How high can you hear?

Ready

A quick, entertainment-style audibility check

The tone rises from 8 kHz toward 20 kHz. Tap when it is no longer audible. The result is a range, never an exact “ear age.”

Confirm that you are in a quiet place and your volume is low.

Frequency is not a birthday

Upper-frequency sensitivity often changes over time, but there is too much individual and equipment variation to turn one browser result into an exact age. We report the measured frequency and broad context instead of saying your ears are precisely a certain number of years old.

Repeat before you compare

Try the test twice at the same volume, then repeat with wired headphones if you first used Bluetooth or a built-in speaker. A repeatable value under controlled conditions is more useful than a single high score.

Before you begin

  1. Lower your device volume before playing a tone.
  2. Start with a quiet, comfortable level.
  3. Never raise the volume to force yourself to hear a frequency.
  4. Stop immediately if the sound feels uncomfortable.
Browser audio is not calibrated. We cannot know the sound pressure level produced by your device.
